WELCOME TO THE LATEST EAST CAITHNESS CHURCH MIDWEEK UPDATE
MIDWEEK REFLECTION
Dear Church Family,
Grace and peace to you this midweek.
In Matthew 6:33, Jesus offers a simple yet searching invitation:
“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
These words come in the midst of a passage about worrying about food, drink, clothing, and the many concerns that quietly occupy our minds and shape our days. Jesus does not dismiss these needs; He understands them fully. But He gently reorders our priorities. Instead of beginning with anxiety, He calls us to begin with trusting Him as the King of Kings and becoming part of His Kingdom.
To “seek first the kingdom” is not merely to think about God occasionally or to fit Him into the margins of a busy schedule but is to give our whole life to Him. It is to centre our lives on His reign, His will, His character, His ways. It means asking, in both small decisions and large ones: What reflects God’s heart here? How can I get His righteousness?
There is a promise attached to this command: “all these things will be added to you.” This is not a guarantee of a trouble-free life, but an assurance of God’s faithful provision in Jesus Christ. When we place Him first, we discover that our needs are held within His care in Christ Jesus. Our perspective shifts, and often, so do our worries.
Midweek is a good moment to pause and gently recalibrate. What has been first in your thoughts this week? What has shaped your choices, your mood, your sense of peace? Jesus’ words invite us not into guilt, but into freedom. A freedom that comes through knowing Jesus, the Way, the Truth and the Life. Knowing Jesus Christ is the freedom that reorders our priorities and renews our trust.
Perhaps today you might take a few moments to pray:
“Lord, help me to seek Your kingdom first. Align my heart with Yours. Teach me to trust that You see my needs and will provide in Your perfect way.”
May this promise steady you and guide you through the rest of the week.
With every blessing,
Cleopas Takavada (Minister-in-charge)
GATHERED SUNDAY SERVICES
Just a reminder of our gathering arrangements for this coming Sunday.
We will meet in our Lybster Church at 10:30am and in our Argyle Square Church, Wick at 12 noon. You are warmly invited to join us at either service.
During both gatherings, we will read from John 14:15–31 and reflect on the theme of “The Spirit of Truth in a world of lies”. We live in a world that some have called a “post-truth” era. Social media feeds us what we want to hear, we are misled by politicians and the enemy of our souls whom Jesus calls “the father of lies” in John 8:44, is ceaselessly at work, whispering distortions into the ears of every human heart. We need someone to tell us the truth.
We look forward to worshipping with you.
UBUNTU PRAISE TEAM (from the African philosophy, “I am because we are”)
We are pleased by the continuous growth of our new praise team-UBUNTU PRAISE TEAM as new members are joining. This coming Saturday, rehearsals will be at 2pm in our Argyle Square Church in Wick. The team is currently looking for guitarists, drummers and those who can play other musical instruments to join and be part of worship across Caithness. If you are interested, please do come along or get in touch with the minister on 07778220452 or 01955 928906.
PULTENEY HOUSE SUNDAY SERVICE
Our next Sunday Service at Pulteney House will be at 3pm on the 17th of May 2026. You are all welcome to join us
SUNDAY EVENING SERVICE
Please Note Over the past while, we have been thankful for the opportunity to gather for Sunday evening services at Argyle Square Church. These times have been meaningful for those able to attend, and we are grateful for the fellowship shared.
However, as many of you will be aware, attendance has been consistently low, and we need to be good stewards of our resources, particularly with the increasing cost of heating and maintaining the building.
With this in mind, we would like to invite those who attend, or who have an interest in the future of Sunday evening gatherings, to join us on Sunday evening, 10th May in our Argyle Square Church in Wick from 6:30pm-7:30pm. This will be an important opportunity for us to reflect prayerfully together and to decide on the way forward.
We will consider whether to continue in the current format or to explore alternative, more sustainable ways of meeting that still nurture fellowship and spiritual growth.
Please come along if you can and be part of this conversation.
CAFÉ CHURCH SERVICE
Our next café church service will be on Sunday the 31st of May 2026 starting from 6:30pm to 7:30pm in the Argyle Square Church Hall.

GROWING TOGETHER BIBLE STUDY- “A DEEPER DIVE”
As we have now completed our journey through 1 Corinthians in our Sunday preaching, our Wednesday night Bible Study Group—Growing Together—is entering an exciting new season.
From this week onward, our time together will become a “deeper dive” into the previous Sunday’s message. This will be a space to reflect more fully, ask questions, share insights, and explore how God’s Word speaks into our lives with greater depth and clarity.
Whether you have been part of the group before or are thinking of coming along for the first time, you are warmly invited. No prior attendance is needed, just bring your Bible, your thoughts, and a willingness to grow together in Christ.
We meet every Wednesday from 7:00–9:00pm in the upstairs lounge at Argyle Square Church in Wick.
If you have ever found yourself wishing for more time to unpack a sermon, or if you simply enjoy learning in community, this is a great opportunity to engage more deeply with Scripture.
We would love to see you there!
